Counseling & Wellness Center Scranton (570) 961-WELL (9355)
Mary Helen Moran Yatko, M.S., LPC
Owner, CWCS
I welcome the opportunity to get to know you. In my personal and professional life I have learned that time doesn't always heal pain, but we can learn to feel better, cope, and heal pain over time. Also, we can never judge the life of another because each individual person knows only their own healing, hopes, and dreams. It is true that for every challenging and difficult time, there is an opportunity to heal and grow as an individual.
Background: I received a counseling master's degree from the University of Scranton in 1997, and I've been a licensed professional counselor for over 20 years. Additionally, I hold a master's degree in criminal justice and previously was a police officer and worked in the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office with victims of crime. In 2006 I was gratefully awarded Northeast Woman of the Month for my work in child abuse awareness. As a previously certified personal trainer, I have coached individuals in wellness and taught group exercise classes.
Mindfulness Training: I practice and teach mindfulness from the Plum Village tradition. I have presented wellness talks for Bank of America, UPS, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and others. Since 2017, I have taught wellness presentations and led weekly mindfulness meditations for Cigna.
I believe in a philosophy of gratitude and creating joy and the life we want through kindness towards ourselves and others. I bring this approach to my clients with person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I would be happy to talk with you on the phone (or email) to answer any questions you may have or to schedule your first appointment.
Be Well,
Marah
